9 Freaky Games You Should (Not) Play Alone

You might need a new psychologist!

Have you ever wanted to sit back, play some video games, and just go completely insane in the process? Today’s modern, weak lineup of “jump scare” horror games might not do it for you. Here’s a list of some scary video games that are sure to keep you up at night!

1. Bioshock 1

While not the “scariest” game on this list in terms of jump scares or gore, this game certainly knows how to give you the creeps at the right times! There’s a certain aspect about playing a first person shooter under the dark, green light of the ocean.

The story, the characters, and the crazy situations this game puts you in is a real treat! Immerse yourself in the game’s audio recordings, unique world and you’re sure to be in for a life changing experience!

2. Dead Space

The name certainly does this game justice! Being alone in space can be quite horrifying, now add in scary monsters and you got a great horror game. But the developers really went over the top with this one by adding in some gruesome death scenes!

3. Silent Hill

Played a few of them, they were scary…

4. Resident Evil FOUR!!!

This game doesn’t bombard the player with an onslaught of non-threatening jump scares, these creatures are scary and they sure are threatening! Here’s a clip from one of the scariest enemies in the game!

If you’re played the game, you should know why the four is “FOUR!!!!!”

5. IB

A pixelated RPG horror game you say? What could possible be scary about that! This really is one of those games and stories you just have to experience for yourself! Alone preferably. This game, depending on the ending you choose, can make you sad or even cry!

There are jump scares in this one, but they do a great job of “hinting” at them before they actually happen which can make you jump, and then realize you should have seen it coming if you were paying attention!

6. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

Camera ghosts is nothing new, however facing the enemies head on is truly a feat of courage that must be overcome! Watch this trailer to see the cinematic glory of this game!

7. Majora’s Mask

The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask is more depressing than any other N64 title I can think of. There are some back stories, and characters that will get you thinking about life. While most of the game and dungeons aren’t as freaky as some of the previous games mentioned on this list, the depressing atmosphere and story should be very memorable.

8. Spooky’s House of Jump Scares

Okay maybe this is literally jump scares, but it’s definitely one of those games you could trick your friends into playing because it’s a “really cute game and it’s not scary I promise!”

9. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Imagine being alone in a giant castle, nothing but the walls, some items, and a big scary monster thing that chases you around! On top of that, why not be unarmed and completely helpless against this creature too?

Amnesia certainly reflects a more realistic strategy that I think most people would take if there was a giant monster wondering around your house. Hiding, running, and hiding some more can make for some real adrenaline pumping horror!
